
A three-day National Science Festival titled '68th SGHSC Annual & 16th National Science Festival-2025' has started with great enthusiasm at St. Gregory's High School and College premises, a traditional educational institution in Old Dhaka on Thursday.
The main theme of this fair is - 'Innovating Today, Sustaining Tomorrow'. About 35 educational institutions in Dhaka city participated in the fair.
Students will participate in five groups in the science festival. The festival includes—Olympiad, Science Project in two categories, Science-based Wall Magazine Competition, Game Event: Hunt the Periodic Table and Museum Specimen Identification.
The school has been organising the science fair since 1966 to make its students science-minded, but this is the 16th time that the Gregorian Science Club of St. Gregory High School and College has organised the event at the national level.
The Principal of St. Gregory High School and College Brother Placid Peter Rebeiro, CSC presided over the inauguration ceremony, the Provincial Superior, Brothers of Holy Cross, Saint Joseph Province, Bangladesh Bro. Ripon James Gomes, CSC was present as chief guest, and Chairman of the Chemistry Department of Jagannath University Dr. AKM Lutfar Rahman, was present as special guest.
The Administrator of St. Gregory's High School and College Bro. Subol Rozario CSC, the Vice Principal of St. Gregory's High School & College Bro. Leonard Chandan Rozario, CSC and the Moderator of the Gregorian Science Club Shukhan Chandra Deya were also present at the event.

In his welcome speech, Bro. Leonard Chandan Rozario said scientific thinking must be accompanied by ethics, values and a sense of human welfare. He urged students to apply creativity in science projects.
Speaking on the occasion, Brother Placid Peter Rebeiro said the mission and vision of the Science Club of St. Gregory's High School and College is to create science-minded students and to create world-class scientists, researchers and innovators. "This 'Science Fair' organized by St. Gregory is a great effort to practice science-based knowledge," he added.
In the chief guest speech, Bro. Ripon James Gomes said the main objective of this science fair is to spread the light of science among the students. He said Such arrangement will inspire the students to practice science.
He said St. Gregory High School organized the first science fair in the history of the country in 1966. Therefore St. Gregory has the responsibility to take forward this journey of science fair. He urged the students to practice art, literature and culture along with science.
In his speech, Dr. AKM Lutfar Rahman said every aspect of our life is related to science. Science is a blessing of God for us. If we understand science then we can understand God. He urged the students to develop science through good works.
The festival will be closed on Friday on Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. Next Saturday, the second day of the festival will be the science fair project exhibition. About 20 teachers from different universities will evaluate the projects. The science event will end with the prize distribution ceremony on the last day, Sunday.
