Actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila, wife of renowned filmmaker Srijit Mukherji, has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in the field of cinema.

The actress has been honored with this prestigious award for her incredible performance in Anirban Chakraborty's film ''O Abhagi''.

"O Abhagi", based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's "Abhagir Swarga", was released in early April of this year. Directed by Anirban Chakraborty, the film has garnered critical acclaim and box-office success.

While Mithila was unable to attend the ceremony in person due to her commitments in Bangladesh, she expressed her immense joy and gratitude in a video message.

"I am thrilled to share this wonderful news with all of you. I have won the Best Actress Award at the 14th Dadasaheb Film Festival 2024 held in Delhi. I received this award for my performance in the film 'O Abhagi'. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our director Anirban Chakraborty, producer Dr. Prabir Bhaumik, and our entire team for their love and support without which this would not have been possible," stated Mithila.

"O Abhagi" tells the story of a young woman named Aruna, who faces numerous challenges and societal pressures in her quest for love and happiness.

Mithila's portrayal of Aruna has been praised for its depth, nuance, and emotional resonance. The film has also been lauded for its beautiful cinematography and poignant exploration of themes such as gender inequality, social stigma, and the resilience of the human spirit.

The film also features Subrata Datta, Debyani Chattopadhyay, Ishan Mazumdar, Sayan Ghosh, Jiniya Pandey, Krishna Bandopadhyay, and Sourav Haldar amongst others.

Mithila's achievement at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival is a testament to her growing talent and recognition as a rising star in both Bangladeshi and Indian cinema.
