Lamia Chowdhury, daughter of late Dhallywood actors Parveen Sultana Diti and Sohel Chowdhury, has alleged that she was attacked over a property dispute in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on Saturday.
At a press conference at her Gulshan residence in Dhaka on Saturday evening, Lamia accused Laila Lutfunnahar Sharmin Preeti, wife of her maternal uncle, and a local BNP leader, Mosharraf Hossain, of orchestrating the attack, reported UNB.
"My father passed away when I was a child, and my mother has been gone for almost nine years. I have a brother who lives abroad, and I visit Narayanganj every week to spend some time in peace," she said.
"Today's attack was premeditated. Around 40 to 50 people attacked me, locked my aunt in a room, and physically assaulted me when I tried to resist. They tore my clothes, yanked my scarf, and injured me," Lamia said.
She further said that the attackers threw bricks at her car, shattering the glass. "When I tried to escape, they hit my leg and snatched my phone, deleting the video I had recorded," she added.
Lamia accused her aunt Preeti of attempting to seize her late mother’s property. "Our ancestral property should be equally divided among my maternal uncles and aunts; but my aunt Preeti is trying to take over our share and used force against us," she said.
When asked whether she had filed a police complaint, Lamia said that she had yet to do so. "I will first seek medical attention and then take legal action," she added.
Meanwhile, her aunt Preeti has countered the allegations, claiming that Lamia brought people to attack her during a property dispute settlement.
Local sources said Lamia’s uncle, Tipu Sultan, passed away around nine years ago, and there has been an ongoing legal dispute over the family’s land. A mediation meeting was held on Saturday, during which tensions escalated, leading to a physical altercation and the vandalism of Lamia’s car.
