A court has issued an arrest warrant for twelve people, including actress Meher Afroz Shaon, in an attempted murder case.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the order after hearing a petition on Wednesday.
Nishi Islam, the stepmother of Shaon, filed the case against Shaon and 11 others over their alleged torture and attempted murder on March 13.
The other accused in the case are—former DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of CTTC Unit Nazmul Islam, Mohamamd Ali, Mahin, Sinjan, Sejuti, Sabbir, Subrata Das, Mainul Hossain, Inspector Saiful Islam Bhuiya, sub-inspector Shah Alam, Mokhlesur Rahman Milton.
Of the 12 accused, Saiful Islam Bhuiya and Shah Alam surrendered before the court and secured bail.
According to the case statement, Mohammad Ali, father of Shaon, married Nishi Islam, concealing his first marriage on February 21, 2024.
After marriage, Nishi came to know that Mohammad Ali was the father of one son and three daughters.
On February 28, Sinjon, sister of Shaon and her husband, Sabbir, asked Nishi not to disclose the marriage of Nishi and Ali. On March 4, Ali asked Nishi to go to his Gulshan residence as he was not feeling well.
When Nishi went to the residence, the accused pushed her out, holding her neck, and tried to get her a sign a blank paper.
Being denied, the accused, including Shaon, ADC Nazmul, physically assaulted her, making her unconscious.
On April 24, 2024, Inspector Shah Jalal and Shaon also beat up Nishi after taking her into the DB office. A case was filed against Nishi and she was also placed on remand.
