A Dhaka court has placed Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), on a three-day remand in a case filed over vandalising and setting fire to the Setu Bhaban in Dhaka on 18 July.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam issued the order on Tuesday when the police produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Andaleeve was arrested around 1am on 25 July from his residence in the capital's Gulshan.
On July 18, some 250 to 300 people stormed Setu Bhaban and ransacked valuables worth Tk 300 crore during the ‘Complete Shutdown’ called by the protesting students.
On the same day, the Bhaban’s caretaker Rabiul Islam filed a case against some people with Banani police station.
