Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has been sent to jail in a case filed over committing irregularities including sedition.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order on Sunday after rejecting his bail petition.
Earlier, on June 26, the Dhaka court placed Awal on a three-day remand in the case.
A team of DB police arrested Awal from the Moghbazar area on June 25.
On June 22, BNP filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station accusing 24 people, including former CECs, election commissioners and other officials for their alleged involvement in conducting the 10th, 11th and 12th national elections without performing the constitutional roles during the Awami League tenure.
