Writer Smaranjit Chakraborty bags Ananda Puraskar

Renowned writer Smaranjit Chakraborty has been selected for the prestigious Ananda Puraskar. He was awarded the award for his novel 'Shunya Pather Mallika'. 

The award will be presented at a function in Kolkata on Saturday (April 26).

The judges of the 1431 Bangabdo Ananda Puraskar were writer Anita Agnihotri, actor Debshankar Halder, artist and essayist Sushoban Adhikari, renowned Bangladeshi fiction writer and editor of the daily Khabar Kagoj Mostafa Kamal, and former editor of Desh Patrika, writer Harsha Dutta.

Although this notable writer of contemporary Bengali literature began his writing career with poetry, his main focus is fiction.

Smaranjit began writing towards the end of the last century. He began to gain a place in the minds of readers when his novel ‘Palta Hawa’ was being published serially in national newspapers.

After receiving the award, he expressed his feelings in the media. He said, "It was an unexpected achievement. There is a unique joy in receiving an unexpected achievement. The Ananda Puraskar has brought me that joy. I am extremely grateful to the Ananda Bazar organization and the Ananda Puraskar jury."

Smaranjit Chakraborty was born on June 19, 1976 in Kolkata. He passed his higher secondary from Nangi High School and enrolled in engineering. But he dropped out after a few days. He then graduated in English from the University of Calcutta.
