The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) starts selling essential commodities today among one crore cardholder families across the country from today.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi formally inaugurated the programme at Dhanmondi Lake, Dingi, Road No 8/A at 10:00 am on Sunday.
The government is going to carry out sales operations across the country, including the capital Dhaka for the month of October with an aim to reduce the inflationary burden of the commoners, it said.
The sales will be conducted from the dealer's shop/designated permanent establishment under the overall cooperation of the city corporation, district and upazila administrations and as per their scheduled date and time.
During this period, a cardholder can buy a maximum of two liters of soybean oil/rice bran oil, two kg of lentil, 5 kg of rice, one kg of sugar and 2 kg of onions.
Under the sale operations, Soybean oil will be sold at Tk 100 per liter, sugar at Tk 70 per kg (subject to availability in some places), lentil at Tk 60 per kg, onion at Tk 35 per kg (subject to availability of imported onion only for Dhaka metropolis) and rice at Tk 30 per kg.
