A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered to confiscate four flats and 866 decimals of immovable property of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his family members in connection with corruption allegations against them.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Jaglul Hossain passed the order following an application filled by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday.

The properties include- Matiur Rahman's 114 decimal land in Muladi upazila in Barisal, 522.52 decimal  land in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district, 2,445 square feet flat in Bashundhara owned by his wife Laila Kaniz, 275.85 decimal land owned by his son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab and 6.56 decimal of land owned by his daughter Farzana Rahman Ipshita in Narsingdi.

It also includes a flat in Dhanmondi and multiple land and multi-storied buildings in city's Bashundhara area.

It is noted in the application that, a 3-member investigation team led by ACC deputy director Anwar Hossain, has been formed.

A perusal of documents shows that the person concerned in the complaint, Matiur Rahman, has been accused of acquiring illegal assets in the country and abroad through corruption and money laundering and acquiring assets outside the known income of Taka hundreds of crores.

During the investigation, it is revealed from reliable sources that Matiur and his family members are trying to hand over the immovable property owned by them, which is a potential threat to proper investigation and justice.

Earlier on June 24, Dhaka Senior Special Judge Mohammad  Jaglul Hossain issued an order banning Matiur, his wife Narsingdi Raipura upazila chairman Laila Kaniz and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab from travelling abroad until further notice.

Later, on June 30, Laila Kaniz applied to the court to cancel the travel ban. The court is scheduled to hear the matter on July 28.
