A case has been filed in Shahbag police station against the quota agitators demanding reform of quota system in government jobs, for 'obstructing police work' and 'vandalism' in Dhaka’s Shahbagh.
Transport supervisor Khalilur Rahman of Rajarbagh Police Lines filed the case at Shahbagh Police Station on Friday night. An unknown number of people have been accused in the case.
The quota protesters were accused of rioting by forming an unlawful mob, obstructing official duties, voluntarily causing hurt, obstructing traffic, attacking police vehicles and assaulting police personnel, causing harm and intimidation, according to the case details.
Sections 143, 147, 149, 152, 341, 323, 332, 353, 427, 506 of the Penal Code Act of 1860 are attached to it.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful of Ramna Police Station, said police had deployed barricades in Shahbagh during student protests, which were subsequently breached, leading to car vandalism.
