The central coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, Sarjis Alam on Friday said the people want to see the execution of dictatorial mafia chief killer Hasina.
He made the remark during the distribution of leaflets and road meetings in the district town as part of the mass communication of the anti-discrimination student movement to create public opinion on the declaration of the July Revolution in Bhola on Friday (January 10).
Sarzis said, the most important thing is that the declaration of the July Revolution should be clear about the punishment of those who have been killed and shed blood, including Hasina.
“In the uprising that saw us shedding blood and sacrificing lives, the dreams we hold for Bangladesh must be preserved. These aspirations must be documented in a declaration, but the content must not reflect the views of a select few. It should resonate with the voices of people from every district, sub-district, and social stratum of the country,” he said.
Alam also highlighted the collective effort in ousting what he described as the "autocratic killer regime" of Sheikh Hasina.
“This movement united people across parties, beliefs, religions, ages, and classes. It is now our responsibility to listen to every citizen and work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the masses for a brighter Bangladesh,” he added.
Talking about local issues, Alam urged people to stand against extortion and corruption, irrespective of the offenders’ social or professional status.
He specifically pointed out incidents in Bhola where law enforcement officials were allegedly involved in violence against protesters.
“Justice must be served for the officers who opened fire indiscriminately on our brothers, including Jasim. Their punishment should go beyond mere transfers,” he said.
Touching upon regional development, Alam questioned why Bhola, which produces gas, remains deprived of it.
“Why should Bhola’s patients risk their lives travelling by ferry or speedboat to receive medical treatment? Why can’t Bhola have a medical college? If Tk 40,000 crore can be spent on the Padma Bridge, why can’t a bridge connecting Barisal to Bhola be built for Tk 5,000 to 10,000 crore?” he asked.
He also demanded measures to prevent the exploitation of Bhola’s gas reserves by vested interests.
The rally was attended by Sharmin, spokesperson of the National Citizens’ Committee, and other central and district coordinators, including Md Israfil Hossain Jabir and Israt Jahan Alvi.
Earlier in the day, Alam and members of the National Citizens’ Committee visited the family of martyred Jasim Uddin, who was killed during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and paid respects at his grave.
The team later distributed leaflets outlining a seven-point demand at various locations in Bhola, including Bangla School Mor, Sadar Road, and Notun Bazar.
The event highlighted a collective vision for a more inclusive, equitable Bangladesh and called for addressing long-standing issues in Bhola and beyond.
