DB chief vows quick action against ‘top criminals’ Picchi Helal, Imon

Detective Branch (DB) chief Rezaul Karim Mallik has vowed to bring ‘top criminals’ including Imam-ul-Hasan alias Picchi Helal and Sanjidul Islam Imon to justice.

“We are ensuring strict vigilance to maintain law and order in the city. Criminals including Picchi Helal and Imon will not be able to evade the law. Our efforts are on and they will be arrested soon," he said at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday, reported UNB.

Both criminals have been accused in cases involving murder and mugging, including a recent case on an attack on two businessmen in the city’s  Elephant Road area recently where Imon was named as the prime suspect. 

Additional Commissioner of DMP and also chief of DB Rezaul Karim said extortionists and muggers have no place in the country.

“Police will act with an iron fist to eliminate such elements. Intelligence surveillance has been intensified across the capital and other palces,” he added.

In the past 24 hours, the DB have arrested 27 people and recovered firearms, foreign pistols, magazines, and ammunition, he said.

“I am not afraid of any threat while bringing criminals to justice,” Rezaul said adding, “I have always served the country and its people with integrity and will continue to do so.” 

Senior DB officials present at the press conference included Syed Harun-ur-Rashid, Joint Commissioner of DB Cyber Security and Support Center (South), Mohammad Robiul Hossain Bhuiyan, Joint Commissioner of DB North, Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon DB, and Mohammad Talebur Rahman, DC of DMP Media.

PM reaches Washington DC from New York

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

Deal to ease trade in taka-rupee to be signed as Hasina

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
