Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali on Thursday said everyone should strictly follow the traffic rules to ensure discipline on the roads and resolve the severe traffic congestion in the metropolis.

“Everyone should come forward in unison to resolve traffic congestion in the metropolis and ensure traffic discipline on the roads. Not only drivers and transport workers should follow the rules and regulations, but everyone, including passengers and passersby should come forward sincerely to this end,” he said. 

He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of 'Counter and E-Ticketing System of Buses in Dhaka Metropolitan City' organized by the Road Transport Owners Association in Azampur, Uttara here. 

The DMP Commissioner said a counter and e-ticketing system is being introduced in order to restore road discipline in Dhaka Metropolitan City.  

“So that passengers can get in and off from specific passengers shades and all -out cooperation will be continued from DMP to make this program a success,” he said.

He also said that the Dhaka Metropolitan city has various problems with about 2.5 crore     city residents.

“Despite this, everyone   tries to live well. We are working so that the people would remain well and no one is harassed through going to the police stations,” he said. 

If a case or general diary is filed with   the police station, police services are being provided at the doorsteps of the people, he said. 

“If any police officer harasses anyone, let us know, we will take strict action against them,” he assured.

The DMP Commissioner urged the transport leaders to regularly pay the drivers' monthly salaries.

In response to a question from the journalist, the DMP Commissioner said that traffic sergeants will be given small arms to prevent robbery.

Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation Humayun Kabir Khan, and General Secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Md. Saiful Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion. 

The program was presided over by President of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association M.A. Baten.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
