Angry mobs demolished the ancestral residence of Awami League leader and former member of parliament Shamim Osman in Narayanganj on Thursday evening.
At around 7 pm in the evening today, hundreds of people attacked and vandalized the house, locally known as “Baitul Aman”. At one point, the building started to be demolished with excavators.
Baitul Aman building was established in 1939 by Shamim Osman's grandfather Khan Saheb Osman Ali. Many leaders and activists including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have come and held a meeting here regarding the formation of the Awami League party. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's unfinished autobiography mentions this building's name. Shamim Osman's father AKM Shamsujjoha used to conduct his political activities from this house.
