The deceased were identified as Limon Befari, son of Nur Mohammad Befari, and Nayon, son of Rustom Haolader, both hailing from Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, and Ibrahim, of Kushtia Sadar upazila, reported UNB.

In Madaripur, a motorbike carrying two friends Limon and Nayon crashed into a speeding drum truck in Purbo Sannisirchar area of Shibchar upazila around 11:30pm, leaving Limon dead on the spot, said Sadar police station’s Officer-in-Charge Jahirul Islam.

The truck was seized but the trucker managed to flee, the OC said.

In Kushtia, a speeding sand-laden truck knocked down Ibrahim and his grandmother while they were crossing Kushtia-Jhenaidah regional road in front of Ibrahim’s school around 8:30, leaving Ibrahim dead on the spot, said Kushtia Model police station’s OC Shehabur Rahman.

Injured  Anowara, 50, grandmother of Ibrahim, was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the district headquarters.

Enraged by the death, local people torched the truck and put a barricade on the road, halting traffic movement.

Following the accident, locals demanded a foot over bridge to ease the crossing of the road.

Upazila Assistant Commission (AC-Land) Rifatul Islam said they would put forward the demand of the higher authority.
