The government has directed the relevant authorities to take departmental action against public officials deemed to be widely corrupt based on intelligence reports.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued the directive on March 20 through a letter addressed to all secretaries, director generals, executive directors, managing directors, government office heads, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
To provide recommendations on the recruitment, transfer and disciplinary measures concerning divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, joint secretaries, and higher-level officials, the government formed the Public Administration Affairs Committee on January 8, with Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed as its chairman.
Following the decision of the committee's second meeting on February 20, the Ministry of Public Administration issued the directive.
The letter states that departmental action should be taken against officials working in ministries, divisions, and subordinate offices who are widely perceived as corrupt by the public, based on intelligence reports.
