Tuesday will mark the first day of Ramadan in Bangladesh after the crescent moon was sighted on Monday evening.

The National Moon Sighting Committee has confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon in the sky of Chittagong on Monday (March 11) evening.

Minister of Religion and President of the National Moon Sighting Committee Faridul Haque Khan gave this information after the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the meeting room of Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram.

He said, the Ramadan moon has been seen in the sky of the country. Fasting will start from Tuesday. Tarabi prayers should be offered from this evening and Sehri should be eaten on the last night today.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food and drink.

The holy month is a period of introspection and community, when Muslims read the Qur’an more than usual, perform taraweeh prayers, and increase their good deeds including charitable giving.
