A two-day 5th 'Gregorian National Knowledge Fiesta-2025' was held at St. Gregory's High School and College premises, a traditional educational institution in the capital, on Saturday.
The main slogan of this festival is - 'The wisdom of youth — the power to change the world'. More than a thousand students from Dhaka University, BUP, St. Francis Xavier's Girls' School & College, Banglabazar Government Girls High School, Bright School and College, Notre Dame College, St. Gregory's High School and College, Holy Cross College, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, along with 50 institutions in the capital participated in the two-day (October 17-18) knowledge fiesta that started last Friday.
Grn Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, Executive Director of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) was the chief guest on the occasion presided over by Brother Placide Peter Rebeiro, Principal of St. Gregory's High School and College. Grn Prof Dr Reaz Mobarak, Professor & Head, High Dependency & Isolation Unit, Bangladesh Sishu Hospital and Institute, was present as a special guest. Brother Leonard Chandan Rozario, Vice Principal of St. Gregory's High School & College, and Patitpabon Mondal, the moderator of the Gregorian Quize Club and senior teacher of St Gregory High School and College, were also present at the event.
In his welcome speech, Patitpabon Mondal said that this two-day-long knowledge festival created a wonderful environment for students to practice knowledge. Through this program, students learned cooperation, compassion, and moral values, which are key components of acquiring knowledge.
In his chief guest speech, Gregorian Dr Tahmeed Ahmed said that the quiz competition is a competition of knowledge through which the knowledge of the students is developed.
Quoting Stephen Hawking's comment, he said those who cultivate knowledge will be able to meet the challenges of a changing world. He advised students to respect teachers and parents who assist them in cultivating knowledge.
Grn Prof Dr Reaz Mobarak, recalled his school life at the beginning of his speech and said, "I have studied in many great institutions in the world, but I will never forget the love and affection I received at St. Gregory. He wished every success to the students of St. Gregory.
In his presidential address, Brother Placid Peter Ribeiro said that the main goal of acquiring knowledge is to change society, and for this, one must first change oneself. He expressed the hope that through the acquisition of knowledge, students would create a knowledge kingdom where they would think creatively.
He thanked the students who participated in this festival for their efforts and urged them to maintain their interest and enthusiasm for knowledge.
The program was moderated by senior teachers Ram Kumar Bhattacharya and Ishita Gomez. At the end of the program, prizes were distributed among the winning students who participated in various events of the knowledge fiesta.
