Hearing on arguments in Pallabi's Ramisa Akter murder after rape case concluded on Thursday (June 4). Verdict in the case will be delivered on Sunday (June 7).
During a hearing in a tribunal in Dhaka on Thursday, state counsellor Azizur Rahman Dulu read out the confessions made by accused Sohel Rana under Section 164 of Criminal Procedures (CrPC).
The hearing of arguments began in presence of the accused at Judge Masroor Saleqin's court at 11:50am on Thursday (June 4). It was first time that the secret confessional statement of the accused read out openly during the hearing.
Following his arrest, Sohel Rana submitted his confession under Section 164 admitting his crime. He said: "My name is Sohel Rana. I live on a rented flat on the second floor. Three tenants live in three flats situated on the second floor. All of them leave their flats every morning for work. I regularly take drugs."
Sohel said: "When the eight-year-old Ramisa came out of the neighbouring flat, I called in her. When she came, I tried to rape her taking her to bathroom forcibly. When she shouted, I hold her mouth. Then I raped her tying her mouth with a scarf. When she lost her conscious, I though she had died and brought a knife from the room. I tried to hide the body. Then I severed her head from her body and then tried to sever her hands. Just at that time, the girl's mother started calling her after witnessing her sandals outside the doors. I got scared. Then I fled away cutting the grills with a wranch."
While producing before the tribunal during the hearing of arguments, Sohel Rana's wife Swapna Akter felt sickness. Then she was put on the dock giving primary treatment.
Earlier on Tuesday, 16 people including Ramisa's father, mother, sister, neighbours, eytewitnesses and investigation officer testified before the court.
Sohel was later arrested from in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj.
Ramisa's father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station. On May 21, Sohel gave a confessional statement before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), after which the accused were sent to jail.
Ramisa's father lives with his family in a rented flat in Section 11, Block B, under Pallabi Police Station, and works at a private office in Banani.
Ramisa was a student of Class II at Popular Model High School.
