Learners on late Saturday (May 9) midnight staged demonstration demanding a ban on student politics at Eden Mohila College in the capital.
The students took to the street breaking the locks of college's main gate at about 11:00pm.
Asked, college student Smrity Akter said residential students of Eden College and proposed Hazrat Rabeya Basri hostels started demonstrating and chanting slogans at about 11:00pm. At one stage, they tried to break several gates on the campus. Learnes taking part in the procession demanded stop of all kinds of "political infleunce" on the campus.
At about 12:30 at night, Lalbagh Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Yasin Ali said: "Students want a politics free campaign. They entrered inside their campus after demonstrating some time. They are holding demonstration inside the campus."
Earlier after Saturday evening, the "Politics-free Campus,"
written on the Eden College gate, was wiped away using colour. In sequel to it, a group of students came out of their dormitories en masse.
They were found tearing the bannees and festoon of Chhatra Dal.
It could not be possible to contact with Eden College Principal Hosneara despite repeated calls on her mobile phone.
