National Citizens Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam has called the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year ambitious and unrealistic.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Chattogram Circuit House at Kazir Dewri in the city on Friday, Nahid said that the government had proposed a budget of about Tk 9.38 lakh crore and set a revenue collection target of approximately Tk 6.90 lakh crore.
He said the revenue target is detached from reality, as such a huge amount has never been collected in Bangladesh’s history.
"Achieving it under the existing administrative and taxation structures is not possible," he added.
