The Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait has successfully rescued and repatriated Amina Khatun, a Bangladeshi female domestic worker who was tortured at her workplace.
At the same time, the embassy has urged women not to travel to the country for domestic work until a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed.
The embassy said the issue of torture on Amina Khatun came to their attention at night on Jule 30 last through social media. On the follow day, the embassy took quick steps in cooperation with the Kuwait police and rescued her from her workplace. Then the embassy took her to their supervision.
After completing the required legal and administrative processes, recovering outstanding dues, finishing travel formalities, and ensuring other necessary assistance, she was safely sent back to Bangladesh on Tuesday (July 14) on a Jazeera Airways flight under the overall management of the embassy.
A representative from the embassy was present at Kuwait International Airport during departure to see her off.
The Bangladesh Embassy stated that until a MoU is signed between Bangladesh and Kuwait regarding female domestic workers, no Bangladeshi women should travel to Kuwait for housemaid jobs.
