The bodies of a couple were recovered from their home on Monday morning (July 13) at Safapur union in Paharpur under Mohadebpur upazila in Naogaon district.
Mahadebpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Omar Faruque confirmed the matter.
The deceased were identified as Lokman Mondal (55) of Paharpur village in Safapur union, and his wife, Delowara Begum (45).
According to local sources, the husband and wife went to sleep after having dinner at night. Around 4:00am, neighbors discovered their bodies on the bed after being informed by their son Mokhtar Hossain.
Locals claimed that Mokhtar Hossain is addicted to drugs and mobile gambling.
They suspect he may have fed the parents something toxic after they refused to give him money for his addiction.
Mahadebpur Police Station OC Omar Faruque said that upon receiving the information, the two bodies were recovered from the spot.
The bodies were later sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Initially, it is suspected that their deaths were caused by consuming toxic-laced drinks. However, the exact cause of death will be known once the autopsy report is received, said the OC.
