Train services on Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar routes resumed today after a five-day suspension caused by waterlogging following continuous heavy rainfall.

Train services remained suspended after sections of the railway line between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route were submerged due to several days of torrential rain and flash floods, said a press release of Bangladesh Railway.

Anisur Rahman, Director of Public Relations at Bangladesh Railway, said repair work began immediately after the flood situation improved and railway engineers restored the Janalihat-Sholoshahar section within a short time.

The Parjatak Express, which departed Dhaka at 1:30 pm on Sunday, resumed its onward journey from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar.

The railway authorities also expressed regret for the disruption to passenger services caused by the natural disaster.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
