A 50-year-old man has allegedly been slit to death by his 35-year-old nephew at Fulchhari upazila in Gaibandha district.
The incident took place at around 2:00am on Saturday (July 11) at Bharadah Majhipara area in Kanchibari union under the upazila. The deceased Shah Jamal Mia was the son of Jonglu Mia of that area.
Locals claimed that victim Shah Jamal was in sleep at the veranda of the house at night. At that time, nephew Golam Hossain slit his throat with a sharp weapon, leaving the 50-year-old dead on the spot.
Relatives said Golam Hossain has long been mentally disturbed and imbalanced. He used the take drugs. He also injured his wife with a sharp weapon some days ago. Since then his wife has gone to Dhaka.
They said Shah Jamal used to rebuked Golam Hossain for his behaviour. The murder might have taken place in sequel to it.
Kanchibari Union Parishad panel chairman Azad Mia said he learnt that Shah Jamal was killed in the hands of his nephew.
