Husband has confessed into the killing of wife Sanjida Akter Maria (18), a first-year honors student at Lalmatia Mohila College,.
Maria's body was recovered at about 8:30pm on Friday (July 10) from their rented flat, adjacent to Alia Madrasa at South Goran area under Khilgaon Police Station in the capital.
Her husband, Saiful Islam (21), was taken to poilce custody at night. He was sent to court after he had confessed to police into the killingt of his wife.
Sanjida's brother, Md Chan Mia, said that about eight months ago, Maria married Saiful, a Foodpanda delivery rider by profession and an inhabitant of Homna Police Station in Cumilla district. After the marriage, they rented the ground floor of that house at South Goran. Chan Mia said he had been calling Maria repeatedly over phone since Friday evening but was unable to contact her.
He said then Maria's husband Saiful was called over phone. Over the phone call, Saiful was asked to go to the house and check on Maria. Later, the relatives went to the house and found Maria lying unconscious on the floor of the veranda adjacent to the kitchen. They noticed a black mark on her neck. Then they called 999, and police from the Khilgaon Police Station went there and recovered Maria's body.
However, when she was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at midnight for legal procedures, a doctor confirmed about her death.
He further said that Maria, daughter of Md. Mohsin, hailed from a village under Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj district.
Khilgaon Police Station said in a press release that the mystery into the brutal murder was solved within six hours of receiving the news. Besides, the arrested husband has confessed to the murder.
Reports indicate that the body of Sanjida Akter Maria was discovered in a manner that it was initially publicized as a suicide. Following the incident, the victim's brother, Chan Mia, filed a murder case at the Khilgaon Police Station on Saturday (July 11).
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred due to domestic disputes involving family members. The investigation remains ongoing.
