Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday (July 12) held a high-level meeting regarding the progress of two modern Waste-to-Energy projects at Aminbazar and Matuail in Dhaka. He directed their swift implementation.
The meeting was held at 9:30am at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
It was told at the meeting that China's CMEC Group is investing in the construction of the Aminbazar Waste-to-Energy Project under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Referring to the waste utilization, it was stated that some 3,000 tons of municipal waste from Dhaka city will be processed here daily. This plant will generate 42.5 megawatts (mw) of electricity.
According to the plan, the plant will start supplying power to the national grid by August 2028 and will remain operational for the next 25 years.
On the other hand, Matuail Integrated Waste Management Project (Dhaka South City Corporation, DSCC).
South Korea's B&F Company is implementing this project.Waste utilization is about 3,000 to 3,500 tons of waste will be utilized here daily.
Regarding the gas and power generation, it said some 15,000 tons of methane gas will be produced annually from the waste, enabling a total annual generation of 81,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity (roughly 221 mwh daily).
It has also been pointed out that the project will produce solar energy, organic fertiliser, animal feed, and eco-friendly Eco-Bricks.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said the two projects must be completed within the specified timeframe by ensuring the best use of eco-friendly technology.
The meeting was attended by LGRD and Cooperatives minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, and the administrators of the two city corporations.
