Celebrated musicologist, singer, composer, researcher and writer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi breathed his last at around 6:15 am today (May 10) while undergoing treatment at York Hospital in Banani. He was 89.
Born at Balarampur of Cooch Behar in West Bengal, India, on December 8, 1937, he was the youngest son of the couple Abbasuddin Ahmed and Lutfunnesa.
Singer Samira Abbasi, daughter of Mustafa Zaman Abbasi announced her father's death in a Facebook status: “So I won’t get to see you ever again!”
Mustafa was a researcher at the 'Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Ahmed Research and Education Center' at Independent University. He received the Ekushey Padak in 1995. In addition, he received the 'Nazrul Mela Lifetime Achievement Award' in 2013 for his work on Nazrul Islam.
