AKM Arif Uddin, Director of the Port and Transport Department of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), has been suspended temporarily.
It was informed through an office order signed by the BIWTA Chairman Md Muhidul Islam on Tuesday (June 23).
The office order stated that the suspension followed specific allegations of moral turpitude, corruption, abuse of power, and illegal wealth accumulation.
It is further stated that he has been temporarily suspended from service in accordance with Rule 41(1) of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Employees Service Regulations, 1990, on charges of violating Rules 35(b) and (e).
According to the official order, he will receive a subsistence allowance during the suspension period as per the rules. Besides, he must regularly report and register his attendance at the Administration and Human Resources Department of BIWTA. His subsistence allowance will be paid based solely on this attendance.
Meanwhile, Director of the Administration and Human Resources Department, Md. Saiful Islam, has been given the additional charge as the Director of the Port and Transport Department.
The office order also mentioned that this directive will take effect immediately.
