Lack of unified Muslim Ummah behind misery of Gazans: Dr Hasan

Criticizing the Israeli occupation in Gaza, the Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said that what is happening in Gaza is unbearable and such incidents occur because of the lack of unity in the Muslim Ummah.

He said Inhumane incidents have been occurred not only in Gaza but in various parts of the world.

The minister made this remark as the chief guest at the 36th convocation ceremony of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in Gazipur on Friday (June 28) morning.

Addressing the students, the Minister urged, "Currently, people have become self-centered. As a result, humanity and love is non existent now. We are continuously becoming like machines. I urge you not to become like machines."

He further stated, "We are in an era of rapid scientific and technological change. The paradigms of life and living are changing around us. In this era of technological advancement, where artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and genetics are reshaping our world, the role of IUT is more crucial. It is not only about providing technical knowledge but also about creating leaders, innovators, and researchers who can utilize these technologies for the betterment of society."

The convocation ceremony, held at the university's auditorium, was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam. Other speakers included Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, Professor Dr. Saleh Ibrahim Alkasumi, Chairman of the IUT Governing Board, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ataul Karim.

The organizers informed that 543 students from 14 countries graduated in this convocation. Among them, 480 were from Bangladesh and 63 were international students. This group included one Ph.D. and 27 MSc students. Eight graduates received OIC and IUT Gold Medals for academic excellence.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

Deal to ease trade in taka-rupee to be signed as Hasina

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
