Russian Deputy Defence Minister Col Gen Alexander Fomin and Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman have met in Moscow to discuss the prospects of military cooperation, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

On April 7, they held a working meeting in Moscow as part of the latter’s visit to the Russian Federation," said the Russian Embassy in Dhaka quoting a statement.

The Russian Defence Ministry said the sides "discussed prospects for cooperation in the defence sector and expressed mutual determination to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between the armies and peoples of Russia and Bangladesh."

"The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere," the ministry added.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
