Captain Saifuz Zaman Guddu, a senior pilot for Biman Bangladeh Airlines, and Abdullah Hil Rakib, a former vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) drowned in Kawartha Lake in the township of Linsey, Canada on Sunday (8 June).

The accident occurred when Saifuz Zaman and Abdullah Hil Rakib were canoeing together along with Rakib's son. The accident occurred at 3:06 PM local time in Canada. 

Following capsize, Rakib’s son managed to swim ashore.

Canadian police confirmed that none of the individuals on the boat were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident.

Saifuz Zaman had recently travelled to Canada with his family to visit his daughter, who is currently studying at a local university.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
