First Hajj return flight lands with 369 pilgrims

A total of 369 pilgrims returned home this morning aboard the first Hajj return flight of 2025, marking the beginning of the month-long repatriation of Bangladeshi pilgrims after the successful completion of the holy pilgrimage.

The pilgrims arrived at 10:54 AM at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by a Saudia Airlines flight SV-3803.

Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Air Vice-Marshal Md. Manzur Kabir Bhuiyan greeted the returning pilgrims with flowers at the boarding bridge, expressing appreciation for their safe journey and successful completion of Hajj.

According to the airport authority, more than 2,500 pilgrims are expected to arrive today by seven scheduled return flights.
 
The final return flight is set to land on July 11, completing the repatriation of all Bangladeshi pilgrims.

To manage this large-scale operation, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Saudia Airlines, and Flynas will operate multiple daily flights throughout June and July, bringing back over 85,000 pilgrims.

Authorities have taken comprehensive measures at the airport to ensure a smooth and secure arrival process for the pilgrims, said the HSIA authority.
 
The special arrangements include deployment of AVSEC personnel to oversee movement and security while Ansar members will guide pilgrims with “Follow Me Placards” from the arrival gates and dedicated immigration counters supervised by the Immigration Police and Special Branch.

Luggage belts 5, 6, 7, and 8 designated exclusively for Hajj returnees, with on-site assistance Customs clearance through Green Channel-2 for expedited processing Distribution of Zamzam water managed by Biman Bangladesh Airlines at the Canopy-2. 

Besides, a designated driveway for the transport of pilgrims by the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).

Earlier, the Hajj flight operation began on April 29, 2025, and the last outbound Hajj flight departed on June 1, 2025, with a total of 220 flights transporting 85,302 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
