Syeda Rizwana Hassan, Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources Advisor, stated that all people, especially the local administration, must be vigilant to ensure that Sylhet's stones are not looted in the name of stone extraction.
Advisor Rizwana Hassan told Khaborer Kagoj this when asked about the stone looting incident over the mobile phone on Thursday.
"If we can utilize this resource of Sylhet through proper planning, then there is a great opportunity for tourism here, which will also create employment for a large number of people," she said.
Describing the current situation as environmentally sensitive, the advisor said, "These environmentally sensitive water bodies must be protected for our present and future generations."
"The economy of corruption that we've seen here and the political support that we've seen behind that economy, if that political support is lifted and the social protests that we are seeing now continue, then it is definitely possible to save it," she added.
