Former Shipping minister Shajahan Khan's son has been shown arrested in a case filed over attempt to murder a youth at East West University premises at Badda in the capital during the July movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam on Monday (January 26) ordered to show Asibur Rahman Khan arrested responding to an appeal by the investigation officer (IO) of the case. Sub-Inspector Zakir Hossain of the prosecution branch confirmed it.
On January 20 last, the IO and Badda Police Station's SI Harun-ar-Rashid pleaded to the court to show Asibur Rahman Khan arrested. Then the court fixed January 26 for the hearing in presence of the accused.
Asibur Rahman Khan was produced at the court during the hearing. On behalf of him, Advocate Morshed Hossain Shahin held the hearing arguing to not arrest him. On behalf of the state, public prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon placed arguments to not arrest him in the case.
The case statement says that at about 1:15pm on July 19 during the July Movement, victim Al Amin took part in the July Movement at Aftab Nagar. The leaders and workers of Awami League and its affiliated organisations launched attack and shot at his leg. Receiving bullet injuries, he then took treatment at a hospital.
Later on September 10, 2024, a case was filed against 16 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Badda Police Station in the capital.
