Husband's body cut into pieces after murder in Shariatpur, wife arrested
Asma Akter, wife of Zia Sardar, was arrested by police on charge of cutting the body of her husband into pieces after murder in Shariatpur district on Friday

Allegation has been surfaced against a woman for cutting the body of her Malaysia expatriate husband into pieces allegedly after killing him in sequel to a family feud in Shariatpur district.

Police arrested the accused Asma Akter while she was concealing some of the body parts of her husband Zia Sardar in a drum and preserving the rest of it in a freeze.

The gruesome incident has created widespread sensation across the district.

Police and local sources said Zia and Asma got married some eight years ago following their introduction through mobile phone. It was  the second marriage of both of them. They lived in a rented house at Chandrapur area under Sadar upazila.

In sequel to a long feud in their conjugal lives, there was an intense altercation between the husband and wife on Tuesday night. At one stage, Asma Akter hit her husband's head with an iron rod and he died on the spot. In order to conceal the murder, Asma cut the dead body into pieces and separated the flesh and bones. Then she kept those in a drum for three days in her house.

Police said Asma dumped some of the body parts at different places after hiring an autorickshaw. She took the rest of the flesh to a tenant of her previously rented house in Palong area of the upazila sadar and tried to preserve those in another deep freeze of the tenant. However, neighbours became suspicious when obnoxious smell had spread from the room. Receiving a phone call on National Emergency Service at 999, police went to the house and detained the woman.

During the questioning, Asma admitted killing her husband. On the basis of her information, police recovered the parts of the dead body from Brikkhatola area in Sadar upazila at about 9:30pm on Friday (May 15). Earlier in the afternoon of the same day, police recovered four parts of the hands and legs of a dead body from the bank of River Padma under Naria upazila. It is being assumed that the body parts belonged to slain Zia Sardar.

Shahadat Hossain, relative of the deceased, said: "My brother married the woman when he was abroad. After arriving in the country, they used to live in a separate house. He was killed very brutally. We demand exemplary punishment of the killer."

Detained Asma claimed that her husband Zia often used to assualt her physically. Zia died when she hit him with an iron rod for self-defence at one stage of quarrel on that day. Being afraid, she cut the body into three pieces.

Palong Model Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shah Alam said the women kept the body parts in a drump after cutting into several pieces following the murder. She was arrested on the basis of the information provided by locals and the body parts were recovered from the place shown by her. It is being investigated to know whether anyone other was involved in the murder.
