A new law is being framed to operate Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as an elite force of police, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday (May 18).

He disclosed it to journalists following an opinion-sharing meeting at the RAB Headquarters at Kurmitola in the capital on Monday (May 18) afternoon.

The Home Minister asserted that the RAB would work in future upholding the human rights. Decision would be taken later on whether its name will be changed or not.

Salahuddin Ahmed also observed that the RAB was affected due to some of its officials. The agency was not responsible for it, rather, the unlawful activities of some RAB officials during the rule of fascism were responsible for it. 

He also said the new law which will be formulated to run the RAB and there will have transparency and accountability.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
