After killing wife, husband also injures himself with knife

After stabbing wife to death at Sadar upazila in Jashore, husband Sujan has seriously injured himself hacking his body with a sharp weapon.

He is now undergoing treatment at the 250-Bed Jashore General Hospital.

The incident happended at about 5:30am on Monday at Sheikh Hati Tamaltola area under the upazila.

Slain Samina Akter (20) was the daughter of Shariful Isman of Shariful Islam of Tarfanwapara area. Killer Sujon is the son of Sirajul Islam, of village Shantinagar in Goyhata union under Nagarpur upazila. They lived in a rented house at Sheikhati Tamaltala area.

Local sources said an altercation had originated between the husband and wife early in the morning. Being angry at one stage, Sujon stabbed at different parts of Samina's body with a sharp knife which left the wife gravely injured. Later, family members rushed her to Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead. 

Meanwhile, Sujon was also critically injured stabbing at different parts of his body with a sharp knife. Relatives rescued him and also admitted him to the same hospital. At present, he is undergoing treatment at the male surgery ward of the hospital.

Samrat Hossain, uncle of slain Samina Akter, said Sujon had a love affair with Samina and they married five to six months ago. As Sujon is a drug addict, there had been quarrels between them. Because of it, Samina came back to her father's home from Tangail. Then the couple got into a rented house in this area. There was an altercation early in the morning in sequel to family feud. At one stage, Sujon injured himself after stabbing his wife to death.

Jashore Kotwali Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Masum Khan said the dead body was kept at the Jashore General Hospital's morgue for postmortem. Killer husband is undergoing treatment under police escort. Legal measures will be taken in this regard.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
