An undergraduate student from Chittagong University (CU) drowned while swimming in Kaptai Lake in Rangamati.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday (June 9) afternoon at Baluchar of Chakrapara area under Rangamati Sadar upazila.
The deceased, Intishar Hasnat Jimel, 22, was a student of the Department of International Relations at Chittagong University. He was the son of Md Belal Uddin from Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar district.
Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jasim Uddin confirmed about the incident. According to police and fire service sources, four friends from Chittagong went to visit Rangamati on Tuesday. In the afternoon, they went out for a boat trip on Kaptai Lake. At one point, when their boat reached the Baluchar area adjacent to Chakrapara, everyone jumped into the lake to swim.
While swimming in the lake, Intishar Hasnat ventured into the deeper section and went missing under the water. Upon receiving the news, a diving team led by Liton Kanti Deb, Station Leader of the Rangamati Fire Service, quickly arrived at the scene. The rescue team immediately commenced their search and rescue operation at the location.
During this time, Intishar Hasnat swam into the deeper part of the lake, sank, and went missing. Upon receiving the news, a diving team led by Rangamati Fire Service Station Leader Liton Kanti Deb quickly reached the spot.

The diving team searched the lake floor at a depth of about 25 feet for a long time and recovered Intishar Hasnat in an unconscious state.Sent to hospital: He was rushed to Rangamati General Hospital by ambulance, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Later, Intishar was rescued unconscious from the lake's bottom, approximately 25 feet deep, and taken to Rangamati General Hospital.
Dr. Farhad Kamal, the attending physician at the emergency department of Rangamati General Hospital, stated that Intishar had passed away before being brought to the hospital. He was declared dead upon arrival.
