A Dhaka court has denied bail to television actor Neamat Ullah Bhuiyan, popularly known as Zaher Alvi, and ordered him to be sent to jail in a case filed over instigating his wife Afra Evenath Iqra's suicide.
Earlier on Thursday (June 18), Alvi surrendered to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin's court and applied for bail through his lawyers. Following the hearing on bail, the court ordered to send him to jail at about 2:30pm, instead of granting bail.
Family members recovered the hanging body of Afra Evenath Iqra from their Mirpur DOHS residence on February 28 last. The house owner along the relatives rushed her to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Receiving information, police went to the Kurmitola General Hospital to prepare first information report and collected various evidence from the residence.
Iqra's father Kabir Hayat Khan filed a case on the day of the occurence. He alleged that "Iqra was compelled to commit suicide due to long feud and various types of torture in her family life."
Earlier on June 4, Zaher Alvi's mother Nasir Sultana got bail surrendering to the court of Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatulla.
