BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday alleged that the government has demolished the mural of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with party cadres.

He said unable to tolerate the existence of the mural of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on erected above the Shaheed Zia Hall in Chashahara of Narayanganj, the government has demolished it with the help of party cadres.

Mirza Fakhrul also said the national independence has been insulted by breaking the mural of freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman, which is an expression of extreme vengeance of the current authoritarian government.

He made the remarks in a statement signed by Taiful Islam Tipu, Deputy Secretary of BNP on Friday.

The Secretary General of BNP made this statement strongly condemning and protesting against the despicable incident of the destruction of Ziaur Rahman's mural.

Mirza Fakhrul said, Bir Uttam Ziaur Rahman, the herald of great liberation war, was not only a brave freedom fighter and sector commander of the battlefield of 1971, but he was respected all over the world as a good ruler. He was a founder of multi-party democracy in our country.

"But the government has become reckless in the game of oppression and revenge to divert public attention by failing in all aspects of ruling the country," he added.

Indeed, Awami League is an evil force against the liberation war. The Awami ruling group has not only destroyed democracy, but is gradually weakening national independence and sovereignty, Mirza Fakhrul said.

Mirza Fakhrul called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the demolition of Ziaur Rahman's mural.
