BNP has nothing to do if India faces public resentment sheltering autocrats, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said.
He made the remarks during an interview with BBC Bangla published on Monday (October 6).
Following the fall of Awami League government on August 5 last, ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina went to New Delhi and has been staying there. Since then there has been a cool relationship prevailing between Bangladesh and India. For instance, the cool relationship has been continuing in the domains of movement of people between the two countries, and bilateral trade and commerce.
Asked whether he would take any step to make the relationship warm if his government comes to power, Tarique Rahman said: "We have almost nothing to do if India faces resentment of the people of Bangladesh sheltering India. It is the decision of the people of Bangladesh to keep relation with India cool. "So, I have to remain with people of my country."
Speaking about the performance of the interim government, Tarique said, "Maybe they have made efforts in several areas. Not everyone can succeed in everything. Naturally, they have certain limitations. Within their limits, maybe they have tried as much as they could."
