Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled four of its members for assaulting journalists while performing their professional duties at Dhanmondi in the capital.
The organisational action was taken on Wednesday (June 24) based on the recommendations of an inquiry committee formed to probe the matter.
The expelled individuals are Jamaat Rukn Shafiqul Islam, activist Khairul Alam Rasel, Abul Kalam, and supporter Mamun Hossain.
Based on the committee's report, the final expulsion order was announced on Wednesday night (June 24) through a press release signed by Abdus Sattar Sumon, Assistant Publicity Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South.
It has been mentioned in the order that the unexpected incident occurred on June 23, 2026, when media personnel performing their professional duties were attacked after a Jamaat rally. On June 24, 2026, the organization announced the final expulsion through an official order.
Labelling journalsists, as 'collaborators of the Awami League' and physically assaulted them with slaps and kicks. Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir, a multimedia reporter for 'Daily Shokal', was severely injured, while several other media personnel faced harassment on June 23 last in Dhanmondi area.
