Benapole Express fire: There is no way to identify burnt corpse

There is no way to identify the victims of the Benapole Express train fire at Gopi Bagh in the capital, said the head of the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College. Kazi Golam Moklechur Rahman. Meanwhile, information from the investigating officer of the case says that four bodies were burnt to ashes. Initially, one of them was identified as male and two as female. There is no way to tell if the other one is a man or a woman. It takes some time to confirm the identity of the body.

According to Dhaka Medical sources, there is no way to identify the bodies of 4 people who were burnt on the train on Friday (January 5). So it cannot be transferred to relatives. Elina and Natasha were two of the four who died in the train fire. Meanwhile, two passengers of the train, Abu Talha and Chandrima Chowdhury Sawmi, have been missing since January 5. Their relatives claim that they died in the fire. Along with them, Elina and Natasha's family members' DNA tests are being conducted.

According to sources, the autopsy of the four persons who died in the Benapole Express train fire was completed on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, the Deputy Inspector (SI) of Dhaka Railway Police Station Setafur Rahman prepared the post-mortem report of the deceased.

When asked, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Dhaka Railway Police Station Setafur Rahman told the Khaborer Kagoj that the relatives randomly identified the body. For this, the DNA test of their family members is being done. On Monday (January 7) and Tuesday (January 9) morning, a few family members of the dead and missing were given DNA samples. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after receiving the DNA test report. Nothing more to say than that for now.

Meanwhile, relatives of Elina and Natasha claim that the police are neglecting to hand over the bodies even after they have verbally identified the victims.

Murad Hossain, a brother-in-law of the deceased Elina Yasmin, told Khaborer Kagoj, "We are giving DNA test samples in the second round to identify Elina's body. We identified the body verbally. But the police said that the body cannot be given unless the test report is received."

Shorshid Ahmed, the brother of Natasha Jesmin, who died in the fire, told the Khaborer Kagoj "We recognized the body after seeing it. But the police say that it is not possible to hand over the body until the final DNA test report is received due to suspicion."

When asked about this, an officer in charge of the CID's forensic laboratory told the Khaborer Kagoj that the body would be identified after the DNA test report is received and further action would be taken in this regard.
