The bank accounts of Obaidul Karim, owner of Orion Group, as well as his spouse and children have been confiscated.
Financial intelligence agency Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sent instructions in this regard to banks and financial institutions of the country on September 19.
The information of Obaidul Karim and his wife Arjuda Karim, son Salman Obaidul Karim, daughter Zareen Karim, and son-in-law Mehdi Hasan, along with their national identity card, has been given in the BFIU letter. Apart from this, his brother Rezaul Karim's name and national identity card information have also been given.
Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Chief Executive Director of BFIU, confirmed this information to the Khaborer Kagoj.
He said that according to the rules, all types of personal and business transactions will be closed for the next 30 days. BFIU can extend this period repeatedly if desired.
The BFIU's letter said that the relevant section of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will be applicable in the case of this order of seizure of bank accounts.
