Israel warned Hezbollah against “terrorism” after leadership of the Iranian-backed group in Lebanon pledged support for Tehran, according to CNN.
“If there is terrorism — there will be no Hezbollah,” Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said on X, addressing the militant group on Friday.
“The Hezbollah Secretary General has not learned from his predecessors and is threatening to act against Israel under orders from the Iranian dictator,” he added. “I advise the Lebanese proxy to be cautious and understand that Israel has lost patience with terrorists who threaten it.”
Katz’s comments come after Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Sheikh Naeem Qassem, reasserted allegiance to Iran and stressed “we are not neutral.”
“We are alongside Iran in confronting this global injustice because we stand for our independence, the liberation of our land, and the freedom of our decisions and choices,” he said.
“We express our position alongside Iran, its leadership, and its people, and we act as we see fit in confronting this brutal American-Israeli aggression.”
Hezbollah’s leadership is currently on the back foot after a 13-month border conflict with Israel spiraled into all-out war last September, before the two sides agreed to a ceasefire in November.
