Neighter the Anti-Corruption Commission, media nor politicians could identify the National Board of Revenue (NBR) officer Matiur Rahman, but a dumb goat identified him, said governing Bangladesh Awami League MP, AFM Bahauddin Nasim on Wednesday.

He made this remark while participating in the discussion of the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the Parliament on Wednesday (June 26).

Bahauddin Nashim underscored the necessity of relevant agencies identifying whether there are more such Matiurs or not. He also put emphasis on finding out other corrupt government officials and urged the government bodies to act accordingly.

Criticizing the professional associations for making statements on behalf of corrupt officials, Bahauddin Nashim said that the related organizations are taking responsibility for the corruption of officials through this kind of statements.

The Awami League lawmaker said that politicians do not take action or take sides when there are allegations of corruption or misdeeds against any other politician. Rather, they raised their voice for taking political and legal actions. That is the greatness of honest politicians.

In other words, he said, when there is an allegation of corruption against any public or private, semi-public or agency or law enforcement agency in particular; Then that group or association gives a clean speech, statement on behalf of the corrupt person. Through this the responsibility of the complaint against the particular person is taken by those organisations. This responsibility falls on the entire organisation. We have to get out of this.”

Nashim said that initiatives should be taken to implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's zero tolerance policy against corruption by taking strict action against corrupt individuals, institutions, government or private parties or organizations.
