Ensure proper usage of medical equipment in public hospitals: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday  said that medical equipment for public hospitals must be procured considering the real needs of the patients, news agency UNB reported.

“Appropriate usage of the medical equipment has to be ensured,” she said.

She also asked the authorities concerned to be careful in making decision on the purchase medical equipment.

The prime minister said this while witnessing a presentation on health sector transformation in the establishment of universal health care at her official residence Ganabhaban.

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon told reporters that the PM has given necessary directions after observing the presentation.

In her remarks the prime minister highlighted Bangabandhu's groundbreaking steps to advance the health sector after independence and said that the father of the nation gave the highest importance to the health services of the common people.

She said that the great development that has taken place in the health sector like every sector in Bangladesh in the last one and a half decades.

She said that her government has brought health services to the doorsteps of the common people.

She emphasised on sustaining the achievements of the current government and moving forward in the health sector.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen, State Minister  Rokeya Sultana, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Health Ministry Dr. AFM Ruhal Haque, Prime Minister's Advisor on Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, PM’s Principal Secretary Md. Tofazzel Hossain Mia, Health Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam and Prime Minister's Press Secretary M Nayeemul Islam Khan were present.

PM reaches Washington DC from New York

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

Deal to ease trade in taka-rupee to be signed as Hasina

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
