In a major triumph for law enforcement, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Sunday said it had arrested top terrorist Chhoto Sazzad, who was on their list of criminals.

On March 15, the police arrested him from the Bashundhara Shopping Mall in the capital, reported UNB.

This was confirmed by Amirul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Northern Zone of the city police.

He said, "A civil team from CMP arrested top terrorist Chhoto Sazzad from Bashundhara City in Dhaka. He will be brought to Chattogram. Further details will be provided later."

According to an eyewitness, at the time of his arrest, Chhoto Sazzad was shopping for Eid at Bashundhara City in the capital's Panthapath. While a retinue of aides and few accomplices were with him, they fled when they sensed the presence of the police.

Sazzad, a notorious terrorist in the areas of Hathazari, Bayezid Bostami, Chandgaon, and Panchlaish in Chattogram, is involved in more than 10 cases, including murder, weapons, and extortion. He is also known as ‘Buri's Grandson.’ (The Old Lady's Grandson) He is the son of Md. Jamal from Shikarpur, Hathazari.

Most recently, on the night of January 28, he publicly threatened to beat up Bayezid Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman during a Facebook live.

As a result, the OC filed a general diary at the police station.

On August 29 of the previous year, Masud Kaiser (32) and Mohammad Anis (38) were shot and killed in broad daylight on the Oxygen road in Bayezid Bostami. This double murder occurred due to a dispute over territorial dominance, business, and political ideologies. In connection with this case, two separate murder cases were filed, naming Sazzad and his associates.
