PM inaugurates Police Week 2026

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (Sunday) inaugurated Police Week 2026 at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.

The theme of this year's Police Week is "Amar Police, Amar Desh, Sobar Agey Bangladesh (My Police, My Country, Bangladesh Comes First)".

The Prime Minister inaugurated the four-day event in the morning with the annual parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground.

Earlier, the premier arrived at the event venue around 8:55 am while Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir and Parade Committee President Additional IGP AKM Awlad Hossain welcomed him. 

The inaugural ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem. 

On the occasion, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inspected the parade of the Bangladesh Police riding in an open red-and-green jeep and took the salute. Different police contingents took part in a disciplined, eye-catching and colorful parade to mark the police week.

At the event, the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia to the development of police were presented in the background.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar served as the parade commander for this year's annual police parade. 

This is the first Police Week under the BNP government since the party assumed office with an absolute majority in the 13th parliamentary election.

Cabinet members, members of parliament, senior government officials, additional IGPs of police, commissioners of all metropolitan police units, range DIGs, superintendents of police, and distinguished guests were present at the event.

The Police Week will continue until May 13.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

Deal to ease trade in taka-rupee to be signed as Hasina

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
